Project Callisto: “Alexa in Space”

Role: Creative Director + Project Lead

NASA and Lockheed Martin approach my team at Amazon and asked if we could test Alexa’s ability to assist astronauts on future space missions. We put Alexa into a console onboard the Orion spaceship and over the course of 26 days we tested Alexa’s skills as it flew around the Moon and back to Earth on the Artemis I mission. We documented the mission with a video series call “Alexa in Space” featuring names like Taraji P. Henson and Nick Jonas. I wrote and directed each episode.

I was the creative director and overall project lead for the mission, working with our partners at Lockheed Martin and Webex by Cisco. For 26 days we were “virtual crew members”, with our own operations suite inside Mission Control Center at NASA—I have the flight jacket and mission patches to prove it. It’s certainly the closest I will ever come to being a real-life astronaut. Below is a snapshot of the creative storytelling, design, and photography we created for the mission.
